HIX Award interview Oly Durcan

"Winning the HIX Award has been amazing. The prize money has allowed me to continue to take adventures with my work, which has been a joy. I have had a busy year of exhibiting and I am of course putting together a group of work for my solo show at HIX ART starting in January 2020. Whist I am finishing my MA at Brighton, this has really focused my practice. It has also given me a confidence in my artistic convictions and I hope that this has translated into my work. I guess I feel braver.

My advice to any artists thinking about entering? Don't hesitate, do it! It is free to enter, and the whole process from entering the award to date has been a simple pleasure. The guys at the gallery have been so supportive and easy to work with. The shortlist show was really interesting, with a diverse group of work, with such a high bar set, I feel extremely privileged to have won."

Elizabeth Eade - Winner 2019

It’s been a great experience being part of The HIX Award and having the opportunity to show work alongside such a talented group of artists. Winning has been a huge boost and made a big difference to my studio time, the generosity of the prize has given me the freedom to make much more work than I could have done otherwise and enabled me to focus on the upcoming exhibition at HIX ART

Sam Bailey - Winner 2017

Since the award’s conception in 2013, it has rapidly achieved a nationally renowned reputation as one of London’s most sensational, yet accessible, graduate art awards.
